Each year, Inscape <\/em>features creative writing from a variety of students, including many who have sharpened their writing skills in the variety of creative writing courses we offer here at Jewell. Taking a creative writing course can not only spark your creativity and provide space for your self-expression, it will also hone your command of language and communication skills. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

ENG 216: Creative Writing Fiction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This introductory course guides you in the craft of writing stories. In addition to reading fiction and writing your own original short stories, you'll also give and receive feedback during workshop sessions. No prior experience with fiction is necessary.

Offered: Every Fall Semester.

ENG 217: Creative Writing Poetry<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This introductory course guides you in the craft of writing poems. In addition to reading poetry and writing your own  poems, you'll also give and receive feedback during workshop sessions.  Poetic styles explored in this class include ekphrastic poetry, photo poems, persona poems, formal poetry, and narrative poetry.  No prior experience with poetry is necessary.

Offered: Every Fall Semester.

ENG 218: Creative Nonfiction<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This introductory course guides you in the craft of writing creative nonfiction through reading, writing, and workshop. Using many of the same techniques as fiction and poetry, creative nonfiction tells a \"true story\" in a way that creates a connection between your \"I\" perspective and an audience. Popular creative nonfiction genres explored in this course include memoir, personal essay, mixed media essay, and the lyric essay. No prior experience with creative nonfiction is necessary.

Offered: Every Spring Semester.

ENG 396: Advanced Fiction Workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intended for students who have taken ENG 316, this course continues and deepens the study of fiction-writing techniques through intensive workshop examinations of original and revised student manuscripts.

Offered: Every Other Spring Semester (Odd Years)

ENG 397: Advanced Poetry Workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intended for students who have taken ENG 317, this course continues and deepens the study of poetry-writing techniques through intensive workshop examinations of original and revised student manuscripts. In addition to writing poetry, you will read book-length collections by contemporary American poets.  Upon completion of this course, you'll have produced a mini-collection of polished poems and gained further insight into your unique poetic voice.

Offered: Every Other Spring Semester (Even Years)
